Dr. Glenn - Behaviourist and Trainer

With over 30 years of experience in general practice and additional training in behaviour medicine, I have helped numerous pets and their owners with a variety of behaviour problems.

As a behaviour vet, I have seen first hand the stress and fear that pets and their owners experience when dealing with behaviour issues. That’s why I have studies the use of fear-free handling technique to reduce stress and make the experience more comfortable for everyone involved.

I also have years of experience fostering dogs with behaviour problems before finding them their forever homes. This experience has given me a deep understanding of what it’s like to deal with behaviour issues in animals at home.

My knowledge of medications and how illness and diet can affect behaviour provides me with a well-rounded perspective on behaviour issues. So, I can provide your pets with the best care possible.

My qualifications include BVSc MANZCVSc (behaviour) and KPA-CTP. These certifications signify my expertise in both veterinary medicine and behaviour training.

Frank - Senior Assistant

Frank, my former sports pug, now pensioner pug, was one of those foster dogs with terrible separation anxiety, and high level of arousal that came my way.

A cheese connoisseur, mentor to puppies, friend to cats, loving companion, and loyal employee. From problem pug to perfect pug. He is an old dog that loves learning new tricks.

My Methods and Philosophy

Dogs and cats are more than just pets to me – they are family, friends, running mates, camping companions, foot warmers, and assistants. As a pet behaviourist and trainer, I understand the special bond that exists between pets and their owners.

But as much as dogs and cats are our companions, we are also their custodians. It is our responsibility to not only provide for their basic needs but also to help them thrive.

That’s why I use science-based and up-to-date methods to investigate behaviour problems and apply behaviour modification and training. By keeping up with the latest research and techniques, I can ensure that I am providing the best care possible for your pets.

I follow the principles of Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) training, which emphasises the use of positive reinforcement and avoids any unnecessary or unpleasant handling. My goal is to make the training experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible for both pets and their owners.

What is clicker training?

My approach to training is predominantly based on clicker training.

It is a method of positive reinforcement training using a small hand held tool that makes a clicking sound when an animal performs the exact behaviour that you want. It is a precision communication instrument which provides a common language for you and your pet.

It is a simple device that works wonders. The principles behind it are based on the scientific principles of operant and classical conditioning. It is a gentle but powerful method which provides a stress free and fun way to learn.

How do I assess and evaluate a behaviour issue?

You and I sit down and discuss the circumstances surrounding the unwanted behaviour and look for a reason motivating the behaviour and the function of that behaviour.

From this assessment we come up with an effective strategy to change the negative emotions to positive ones and replace the unwanted behaviour with acceptable behaviour.
